About the role

Provide direct bedside nursing care for adult medical-surgical patients, including assessments, medication administration, and EMR documentation. Collaborate with the care team to develop patient plans and monitor for changes in patient condition.

Overview Registered Nurse – Med Surg, Travel assignment in Hilo, Hawaii.

Start date: 09/14/2026.13-week contract in a medical unit setting with nights allowed.

Weekly pay: $1,852–$1,888.

36 hours per week scheduled after the first full week of orientation, with potential variation in shift length and days.

This travel role includes a medical-surgical focus with possible floating to other units as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, ongoing bedside nursing care for adult medical-surgical patients
  • Perform initial assessments, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and document in the Meditech EMR
  • Manage IV therapies, wound vacs, chest tubes and related devices as assigned; operate Pyxis system for medication distribution
  • Collaborate with physicians, residents, and the care team to develop and update patient care plans; educate patients and families
  • Monitor for changes in patient condition, respond promptly, and escalate using appropriate protocols; ensure clear handoffs during shift changes
  • Maintain infection prevention practices, chart accurately, and comply with unit policies during rotations across assigned units

Requirements

  • Hawaii RN license active by start date
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required - 2–10 years of med-surg nursing experience
  • Proof of influenza vaccination or facility-approved medical/religious exemption prior to contract start
  • Must arrive the Thursday before start to attend employee health clearance; orientation is provided for each unit
  • Ability to work nights; flexible with shift lengths and days; no guaranteed hours guaranteed
