Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver nursing care for step-down/telemetry patients, including assessment, planning, and documentation.
  • Accurately interpret ECG rhythms and respond to life-threatening emergencies in the patient population served.
  • Administer medications and IV therapies, manage indwelling devices and blood products, and monitor patient status.
  • Coordinate care with the healthcare team, verify alarms with the Monitor Technician, and adjust care per unit policy.
  • Provide post-procedural and post-intervention care (e.g., post coronary intervention with femoral sheath management; post pacemaker or AICD placement) as applicable on the unit.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to ancillary staff (e.g., CNA) within their scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in the state of practice (California) or state of assignment.
  • ADN or equivalent required; BSN preferred.
  • BLS certification from an approved vendor; ACLS certification from an approved vendor.
  • NIHSS certification required within 6 months of hire; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience in an acute care cardiac/telemetry or related setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced PCU/step-down environment; may float to Medical-Surgical units if needed.
