About the role

Provide direct nursing care to stable and critically ill neonates in a Level III NICU, including managing ventilators and IV therapies. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement care plans and coordinate discharge education for families.

Overview Registered Nurse, NICU travel assignment in San Luis Obispo, California.

This 8-week, travel - temporary assignment is in a short-term acute care setting with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Start date 08/17/2026.

Guaranteed hours 48 per week, with a weekly pay range of $2,025–$2,154.

Shift is 3x12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM).

Cross-training to Pediatrics is expected, and Epic EMR experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to neonates in the NICU, including stable and critically ill newborns.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans; administer medications and IV therapies; manage indwelling lines and drains.
  • Monitor physiologic status, respond to changes, and support ventilated neonates with devices such as CPAP, O2 therapy, and ventilators.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team; document progress and coordinate with families on education and discharge planning.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to appropriate ancillary staff within scope of practice; cross-train and float to Pediatrics as needed.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in the state of California
  • Education: ADN or equivalent required; BSN preferred
  • Minimum two years NICU nursing experience required
  • Certifications: BLS, PALS, and NRP from approved vendors required
  • Epic electronic medical record experience required
  • Neonatal transport experience preferred; previous experience attending deliveries for neonatal resuscitation preferred
  • RNC or CCRN certification preferred
  • Ability to work in a Level III NICU setting and float to Pediatrics as needed
