Responsibilities

  • Provide direct professional nursing care for PACU patients across the appropriate age range per unit scope.
  • Monitor post-anesthesia recovery, including vital signs, airway status, oxygenation, pain control, and overall stability.
  • Administer medications and therapies per physician orders and the patient’s plan of care; respond promptly to changes in patient status.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interprofessional team members to coordinate post-anesthesia recovery and discharge planning.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record; ensure proper handoffs during transitions of care.
  • Support patient and family teaching related to recovery, signs of complications, and discharge instructions.

Requirements

  • Licenses: California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required at time of hire.
  • Additional certifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of hire and IV Sedation competency within 6 months of hire are required for PACU roles.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in PACU or acute care settings.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Other: Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia interpretation; EPIC experience preferred.
