Responsibilities

  • Deliver coordinated perioperative nursing care for a patient or group of patients according to established standards and the nursing process.
  • Assess patient data and develop an individualized perioperative plan of care; implement the plan and coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia, and other disciplines.
  • Monitor patient status intraoperatively, ensuring sterile technique, patient safety, and infection control throughout the procedure.
  • Delegate appropriately and supervise various levels of nursing staff; collaborate with the treatment team to promote a safe, healing environment.
  • Participate in discharge planning and provide patient/family education and learning opportunities for care continuity after surgery.
  • Document care activities and patient progress in the medical record; support backfill needs with EPIC and Cerner systems as applicable.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice (California required)
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification from an approved vendor
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Experience: At least two years of recent experience in acute care or perioperative nursing
  • EMR: Experience with EPIC and Cerner systems is required
  • Skills: Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary operating room environment; strong critical thinking and collaborative skills
