  • Shift: AnyPURPOSE OF POSITION The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Certified Nursing Assistants with routine, non-resident care duties in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the administrator, to assure that the highest degree of care and/or services can be maintained at all times. DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY As Care Helper, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. JOB FUNCTIONS The Facility has reviewed this job description to ensure that the essential functions and basic duties have been included. It is intended to provide guidelines for job expectations and the employees ability to perform the position described. It is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all functions, responsibilities, skills, and abilities. Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate. SUPPORT OF MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY By accepting employment with Garvey Manor and Our Lady of the Alleghenies Residence, each employee must agree to foster an atmosphere which reflects the Mission and Philosophy of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, incorporating the Philosophy Values into daily care and/or services as well as into interactions and associations with residents, co-workers, volunteers and guests. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Identify residents as necessary. Assist in transporting residents to and from appointments/activities within the facility when appropriate (meals, activities, social programs, Mass, etc.). Assist nursing staff with non-direct care duties. Make or turn down beds as assigned. Put covers on beds when requested. Answer call bells promptly. Help if able or redirect to C.N.A./Team Leader/RN Supervisor.\ Distribute beverages (hydration cart) and snacks as indicated under Team Leader supervision. Keep residents call bell within easy reach of resident.
  • Perform routine duties such as: Storing activities supplies (games, cards, materials, CDs, movies, etc.) neatly in appropriate locations. Keep activities supplies organized. Keep family rooms neat, tidy, and uncluttered. Clean trays/tables as needed. Keep hydration cart clean and tidy. Ensure that hydration pitcher lids are closed tightly and return pitcher to refrigerator. Re-stock napkins, straws, cups, and spoons on hydration cart. Empty linen hampers as necessary when ½ to ¾ full (C and D units). Engage in conversation/one-to-one interactions as time permits or as directed by Team Leader. Routinely review communications in units charting rooms (memos, etc.) directed to all staff and/or care helpers. Assist with activities as requested or assigned. Provide relief coverage at the switchboard as requested after receiving training.

  • Duties: Assist residents with cleaning their hands before meals. Distribute drinks (hydration cart) and snacks as required. Conduct activities according to posted schedule. Complete participation log. Keep log on the activity cart. Read and initial communication log prior to beginning shift. Keep log in activities office on the unit. Inform Team Leader of any change in activity schedule. Document if activity was not completed (use form provided).

  • Attend 10:00 am Mass to observe and assist residents as needed. Assist with feeding dependent residents when trained to perform this task. Assist dependent residents with drinks (hydration cart, meals, etc.). Assist residents with identifying food arrangements (hot, cold, etc.). Respond to residents personal alarms and door alarms, ensure resident safety, and notify Team Leader of alarm and response. Check resident rooms for food articles and food spills. Keep floors dry. Clean up spills immediately. Report spills or soiled carpet/furniture to Team Leader. Remove any slip/trip/fall hazards such as items on floor, inadequate lighting, wheeled chairs/stools/carts, etc. from resident areas. Respond to fire alarms as required (refer to Fire Safety Manual for employees responsibilities and those that are specific to your position. Follow established infection control measures in the performance of duties, including, but not limited to, hand hygiene, exposure to blood and body fluids, and universal precautions. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident information. Treat all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity and respect. Report all complaints and concerns made by the resident to the Team Leader. Report all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of property. Train or direct other employees and volunteers as requested. Maintain compliance with applicable regulations. Attend and participate in in-service education and on-the-job training as directed, especially mandatory in-services and department meetings. Follow all safety procedures and precautions in the performance of your duties and when operating equipment. Report all problems with equipment to supervisor and maintenance as soon as possible. Report all safety violations. Use only the equipment you have been trained to use that is necessary to do your job. Inform Team Leader of any special needs. Follow established regulations governing the use of labels and MSDSs for hazardous chemicals within the department. Follow established ergonomics policies and procedures governing lifting techniques, repetitive tasks, and the use of safety equipment and supplies to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses. Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions to your supervisor immediately. Use supplies in an efficient manner to avoid waste. Maintain confidentiality of all resident and facility information. Perform care and services in a manner which is respectful of residents rights and dignity. Review Corporate Compliance educational materials, comply with Corporate Compliance directives, and report any Corporate Compliance issues according to established procedures.

  • Licenses: None required. Other Physical/Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices) Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day. Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations. WORK ENVIRONMENT Works throughout the nursing service areas (Care Base, resident rooms, etc.) and other areas as required, as well as throughout the facility. Moves frequently during work hours. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, volunteers, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.). Attends and participates in continuing education programs. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants. Communicates with nursing personnel and other departmental personnel. Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Requirements

Candidates must have at least a tenth-grade education and the physical ability to move throughout the workday. No prior experience is required as on-the-job training is provided.
