3700/3800 is a 56-bed Mother Baby unit providing service and care to mother-baby couplets who are well, but additionally treating mothers with pre-eclampsia, newborns whose mothers are diagnosed with chorioamnionitis, high risk postpartum conditions such as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, and surgical patients who have undergone C-section, post-partum tubal ligation, and/or hysterectomy during childbirth.

This is a fast-paced unit that provides staff with the extremely rewarding opportunity to impact and educate new families as well as work through adoption and surrogate scenarios.

What can you Expect as a Nursing Assistant?

The Nursing Assistant provides direct patient care as directed by the RN including all activities of daily living such as but not limited to bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting and ambulating patients while maintaining an environment conducive to patient safety and recovery including, but not limited to, completing safety checks, keeping the department and patient rooms clean and organized, cleaning department specific equipment, changing bed linens, emptying linen hampers, keeping hallways clear of equipment and returning equipment.

You will deliver patient nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes patient mail as well as perform the UPMC nursing core responsibilities for nursing assistants: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care.

The nursing assistant will provide direct patient care as directed by the RN including all activities of daily living such as but not limited to bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting and ambulating patients while maintaining an environment conducive to patient safety and recovery including, but not limited to, completing safety checks, keeping the department and patient rooms clean and organized, cleaning department specific equipment, changing bed linens, emptying linen hampers, keeping hallways clear of equipment and returning equipment.

You will also take care of point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs), and urine specimen collection.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience. Candidates without previous PCT experience in a hospital-based setting will be required to attend a 7 day mandatory training course. This course is held during weekdays and daylight hours. Shifts/Hours: This role will work 6-hour shifts from 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am. This role will work 12 hours every two weeks and rotating holidays and weekends. *Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

High School Diploma or Equivalent Successful completion of UPMC Nursing Assistant or EIC training program Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred Enrollment in nursing school required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance *Other clearances may be required based on department of hire UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma, enrollment in nursing school, and BLS/CPR certification. Successful completion of UPMC training is required, and CNA certification is preferred.
