A Brief Overview Provides assessment and treatment of psychological symptoms and coordinates additional mental healthcare referrals as needed for patients identified to have behavioral health and/or mental health disorders. Conducts educational programs and activities to promote mental health wellness. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do Interviews referred clients to provide behavioral health counseling and assess needs.

Evaluate patients in crisis situations to determine appropriate course of intervention and facilitating internal and/or external referrals when necessary.

Develops plans of care with patient and provides case management functions of linking and arranging services for patients.

Utilizes empirically-supported psychological interventions to treat commonly occurring mental health conditions, coordinating with collaborating medical providers as needed to promote overall health and wellness.

Promote and provide behavioral health education and standards of care in community and among employees as requested.

Monitor the clinic's behavioral health program, gather data to measure outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement in coordination with the leadership team.

Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrates cultural competency and knowledge of interventions with special populations. Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, interpreting reports and EMR documentation. Ability to assess situations to create appropriate care plans and find solutions to barriers in the behavioral health care system. Ability to independently think and collaboratively develop a health navigation program. Ability to effectively communicate daily with patients/families, school or employer officials and peers to implement programs. Ability to conduct all activities in accordance with professional ethics and values. Analyzes problems using knowledge, skills, general precedents and practices for needed assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Make recommendations and refer exceptions that affect policies, procedures and practices to the supervisior. Thorough knowledge of current theories and principles of mental health disorders and best-practice counseling techniques. Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision. Performs daily using PC, Email and MS office. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Performs duties within scope of general MLH policies, procedures and objectives.

Supervision Provided by this Position Guides the work of others who perform essentially the same work. May organize, set priorities, schedule and review work, but has no responsibility to hire, terminate, review performance or make pay decisions.

  • Physical Demands The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.

Requirements

Requires a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology and 1-3 years of counseling experience. Must hold a Temporary Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider designation in Tennessee.
