About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for evaluating specimen integrity, performing laboratory tests, and reporting results. They also facilitate workflow processes and participate in the training and orientation of new staff and students.

Arlington, TX 76012 Work hours: Full Time - Nights, Friday through Monday; 2200-0630 Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital has a rich history in North Texas serving the local communities of Arlington, Kennedale, Pantego, Mansfield and Grand Prairie.

Our location in central Arlington provides convenient care to people in the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas.

We specialize in comprehensive medical/surgical care, cancer care, women’s services, behavioral health, neurosciences and emergency medicine.

Plus, we’re a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, Level III Maternal Newborn care unit and a Level III Trauma Center.

Here’s What You Need

  • Education · Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Applied Technology, Clinical Lab Science or Chemical, Physical or Biological Science preferred Experience · Internship in an approved Medical Technology training program required · 2 Years Hospital Experience or Medical Laboratory preferred Licenses and Certifications · MLS (ASCP) - Medical Lab Scientist 6 months required or other AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS- CA, FL, NY state license, Philippine Board of Technical Technology, 6 Months required · MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist 6 Months required · M(ASCP) - Microbiology if working in Microbiology 6 Months required What You Will Do · Specimen integrity is recognized by evaluating and solving problems related to collection and/or processing of specimens · Specimen conditions are identified that adversely affect test results · Facilitates workflow process · Checks outstanding tests list in a timely manner · Participates in orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees and observers · May be responsible for ongoing competency assessment for employees · Follows established laboratory test procedures, including using proper computer protocol · Evaluates and reports test results · Demonstrates understanding of quality control guidelines · Follows Laboratory policies when quality control is not within established limits · Incorporates safety/infection control measures into work practices · Follows HIPAA guidelines

Requirements

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a related science field and a required internship in an approved Medical Technology program. Certification as an MLS (ASCP) or equivalent is required, and 2 years of hospital experience is preferred.
