About the role

The RN is responsible for providing compassionate care to neonatal and pediatric patients, facilitating communication between the healthcare team and families. Key duties include assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and performing various therapeutic and diagnostic interventions.

  • Where You’ll Work St. Catherine Hospital, located in Garden City, Kansas, was founded by two pioneering physicians and the Dominican Sisters. They created and maintained the spirit that has enabled St. Catherine Hospital employees to develop a thriving health care facility unlike any other in southwest Kansas. Like many of the families and businesses in our community, our roots run deep 85 years of excellence and counting. Residents of Garden City enjoy life in a relaxed, small-town (population approx. 30,000) with a zoo, several parks, golf courses, modern shopping and more. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Catherine Hospital is a Level II NICU with seven available beds. We have five additional beds for pediatrics. We care for babies born at 32 weeks and above. If we have a baby born at our hospital earlier than 32 weeks, we stabilize the baby and then transfer to a higher level of care NICU. We care for a wide range of medical diagnoses in the NICU including but not limited to: pneumonia, sepsis, pneumothorax, hypoglycemia, prematurity and feeders and growers. We take care of babies on ventilators, nasal cannulas, chest tubes, umbilical lines, needle aspirations, antibiotics, etc. We have four dedicated pediatricians that care for our babies in the NICU who also consult with neonatologists as needed. We receive transfers into our NICU from our surrounding towns for babies that need a NICU or higher level of care. One of the unique things about working in a rural hospital is that you get to see a wide range of different things that you may not get to see in a bigger hospital where you specialize in one area. Our NICU team is cross-trained to OB postpartum and pediatrics so you gain a variety of skills in several different areas. We always look for someone who is a team player and is passionate about being a baby’s advocate. As a NICU nurse you develop relationships with the baby’s family and want to provide the best care. Impacting someone’s life in a positive way so drastically connects us to our patients and helps us remember we make a difference every day. Our mission is to provide high-quality compassionate care to the patient and their family to get them healthy and home as soon as we can. Market context

Kansas nursing roles need experienced RNs

Kansas nursing openings commonly favor candidates with prior bedside experience and current licensure, especially in settings that need nurses who can step in with limited onboarding. This role is competitive because it asks for an ADN with BSN completion within five years, one year of RN experience, a multi-state RN license, and BLS and ACLS certifications. Review the AI-summarized requirements and benefits on this platform against the original posting, then confirm your license status and certification dates before applying to save research time.
