John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN.

This position is 48 hours per two weeks on the Night shift, for 12 hour shifts, variable schedule, and every third weekend rotation.

About this

Unit

The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 21 bed level 3 that cares for infants that are 28 weeks gestational age and older. St. John’s NICU offers nasal CPAP and ventilators. In addition to working in the NICU environment, staff RNs will care for couplet in Postpartum, patient ratios are 1-3 for mom and baby. RNs will assess mothers and infants, provide medication administration, assist with breastfeeding and work towards a family’s independence in caring for their baby at home. This position has the opportunity for obtaining RN Certification in Neonatal Nursing (RNC). The RN serves as the key leader of the interdependent team and is responsible to achieve patient and unit outcomes by coordinating the care for a group of patients. This includes: comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on the needs' assessment; establishing the plan of care; monitoring the progress; and modification of the plan of care as needed. Demonstrates dedication to principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieving the HealthEast nursing vision and strategy Applies the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome focused patient care. Throughout this process, also understands and incorporates holistic nursing theory based on Watson's Theory of Caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses' Association whenever holistic therapy is offered Communicates effectively with patient/family, physicians, the interdependent team, and other disciplines regarding the plan of care Assesses and documents learning needs of the patient and family. Develops an individualized education plan for patients and families based on identified needs Actively participates in crafting and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency and effectiveness outcomes Complies with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and other established practice standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures Coordinates the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation Actively participates in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement) Required Qualifications: Active MN RN License Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers NRP Certification at or within 6 months post hire onto the unit At least one year of RN experience in an Acute Care Hospital or successful completion of a clinical capstone/internship in a NICU setting

Preferred Qualifications: Hmong/Spanish/Karenic language proficiency BSN Degree

Requirements

Candidates must hold an active MN RN License, BLS certification, and NRP certification (or obtain it within 6 months). At least one year of acute care hospital experience or a NICU clinical capstone/internship is required.
