About the role

The Health Services Counselor provides mental health counseling, assessment, and treatment planning for adult and pediatric patients. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community agencies to implement recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care models.

Miami, FL Full-Time CHS Medical BH Summary The Health Services Counselor is responsible for the provision of mental health counseling services to adult and/ or pediatric patients. The position is responsible to perform at a competent level the following standards: assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, treatment planning, coordination of care and discharge planning tasks.

Responsibilities

Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff to design and implement appropriate treatment plans, including discharge plans. Provides professional counseling and therapeutic intervention to patients and/or families utilizing age specific treatment modalities. Collaborates with community agencies which provide services for patients and their families. Leads or co-leads patients' groups as needed. Knowledge and mastery of assigned grant programs. Submits statistical reports, outcome measures and scaling tools as required by grant. Participates in orientation and training of interdisciplinary staff. Participates in program improvement projects as implemented for evaluation. Implement goals of a Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC) model by promoting good quality of life, community health and wellness for all; Prevent the development of behavioral health conditions; Intervene earlier in the progression of illnesses; Reduce the harm caused by substance use disorders and mental health conditions on individuals, families, and communities; Provide the resources to assist people with behavioral health conditions to achieve and sustain their wellness and build meaningful lives for themselves in their communities. Implementation of trauma-informed care, including understanding the dynamics of trauma assessment and providing essential tools for coping with trauma. Maintains current knowledge of clinical practice including specific knowledge of age-related bio-psychosocial issues, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions. Participates in Committees as assigned. Supervises students. Provides coverage as assigned. Participates in hospital, departmental and unit meetings. Performs other related duties as required. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Experience Generally, requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education Master's degree in related field is required.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the area.

Credentials American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Requirements

A Master's degree in a related field and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience are required. Candidates must hold a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
