About the role

The clinician performs preliminary and intake assessments for individuals referred to Horizon Behavioral Health. They are responsible for coordinating internal and external referrals and managing a caseload of outpatient cases.

Hours

  • full-time (37.5 hours per week), with full-time benefits,
  • Monday through
  • Friday, 8:30a – 5:00p, hybrid schedule with remote days

Location: Lynchburg VA, 24501

Position Summary

The Admissions Clinician (LMHP-E or LMHP) will complete preliminary and intake assessments for individuals who are referred to or approach Horizon Behavioral Health for services. The Clinician LMHPE will coordinate referrals internally to Horizon services or externally to appropriate community resources. The Clinician LMHPE will also carry a caseload of assigned outpatient cases.

Required Education and Experience

Master's Degree from a program that prepares individuals to practice counseling (60-hr Master's Program), which is offered by a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency. (Re: 54.1-3500 of the Code of Virginia)

No experience required.

Resident in Professional Counseling, Supervisee in Clinical Social Work, Resident in Licensed Marriage, Family Therapy, Resident in Substance Abuse Treatment, or eligibility to apply for residency.

Note

New hires will be expected to apply for clinical supervision and residency within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge of and adherence to existing professional ethical standards; Knowledge and ability to provide evidenced based group/individual therapy; Knowledge of and ability to complete psychiatrically based assessments; Ability to form and maintain effective counseling relationships with clients, to monitor client movement in the therapy process, and terminate the therapeutic relationship in appropriate ways; Ability to effectively communicate orally, both in person, and by telephone; Ability to effectively communicate in writing and to prepare written documents; Ability to maintain a consistent and dependable work schedule: Ability to travel to meetings, other campuses, and counseling sites; Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely and appropriate manner; Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment

  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations.
  • Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.

Candidates must hold a Master's Degree from an accredited counseling program and be eligible for residency or licensure. No prior experience is required, but a valid driver's license and the ability to pass behavioral intervention training are necessary.
