The Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) at Inova Fairfax Hospital is an 18-bed adult unit. MSICU provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for critically ill adult patients with complex medical conditions requiring advanced monitoring and life-sustaining therapies. The MSICU manages a wide range of diagnoses including sepsis and septic shock, acute respiratory failure, ARDS, severe pneumonia, COPD and asthma exacerbations, diabetic emergencies, gastrointestinal bleeding, renal failure requiring dialysis, toxicologic overdoses, neurologic emergencies, and multisystem organ failure.
18 private rooms (all have patient lifts), EpicCare electronic medical record technology for improved care and safety, Geriatric-sensitive color schemes and patterns for patient and visitor safety, Patient/Family zones in patient rooms to promote involvement, privacy and comfort, Larger patient room windows allowing more natural light to promote healing, 360-degree patient access in critical care rooms for urgent in-room procedures, Free Wi-Fi connectivity throughout hospital for convenience.
Care needs of our patients may include, but is not limited to, patients requiring: Invasive hemodynamic and/or cardiac monitoring Intubation and mechanical ventilation Intravenous administration of vasoactive medications Conduction of medical and nursing research studies Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).

Requires a BSN (or ADN with commitment to complete BSN) and at least one year of critical care experience or a fellowship. Must hold a current RN license for Virginia and BLS certification, with ACLS required within six months of hire.
