About the role

Perform technical radiographic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing diseases and injuries while ensuring minimal radiation exposure. Manage patient care, administer contrast media, and operate diagnostic equipment including C-arms and portable exams.

Job summary

The Radiologic Technologist I must be competent and functional in one modality.

Performs technical procedures to obtain radiographic films of various portions of the body using recognized radiographic techniques to assist physicians in diagnosis of diseases and injuries with a minimum of ionizing radiation being applied.

Requires social maturity and poise to respond appropriately and communicate courteously and effectively with a wide range of internal personnel and general public.

Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiological Technology.

Must have current KY Radiation Operators General Certificate and be registered by the ARRT.

Prefer a minimum of one to two years experience.

Qualified new graduates are acceptable.

Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

Essential functions, duties, and responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Prepares rooms and performs patient procedures efficiently.
  • 2.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures to ensure the delivery of quality care.
  • 3.
  • Responsible for radiation protection for self, patients and general public.
  • 4.
  • Is competent in using all diagnostic equipment in all rooms and is familiar with each Radiologists protocol for each exam.
  • 5.
  • Is competent in performing portable exams in the OR, as well as obtaining diagnostic images by effectively using the C-arm for surgical cases.
  • 6.
  • Correctly prepares and administers contrast media to patients, with knowledge of patient history and renal function.
  • 7.
  • Is competent in safely obtaining IV access for contrast media injection and maintaining existing IV sites while the patient is under their care.
  • 8.
  • Assists the Radiologists in the performance of all contrast exams.
  • 9.
  • Is knowledgeable of the process of placing service calls to all diagnostic equipment vendors and is familiar with service information such as site numbers, purchase order numbers, insurance, service contracts, etc.
  • 10.
  • Assists in the clinical training of radiological technology students.
  • 11.
  • Insures customer satisfaction by using proper introduction of self and identification of purpose of visit and performing exams in a timely manner with the least amount of wait time possible.

  • Accepts supervision and maintains good working relationships within the Diagnostic Services department and throughout the organization.
  • 13.
  • Accepts and assumes responsibility for job functions performed and is accountable for the results.
  • 14.
  • Demonstrates skill in problem solving and follows through on assigned functions.
  • 15.
  • Sets priorities needed to perform job functions effectively.
  • 16.
  • Responds to patient request for assistance, information and needs in a timely and empathetic manner.
  • 17.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper infection control techniques, universal precautions and utilizes then for every patient.
  • 18.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizational HIPPA and confidentiality policies and follows the criteria.
  • 19.
  • Responsible for checking physician orders and ensuring appropriate documentation for all exams in the patient’s chart.
  • 20.
  • Competent in using Meditech HIS, specifically the ITS module.
  • Can navigate the EMR with ease and update and/or change orders in a timely manner.
  • 21.
  • Competent in PACS information flow.
  • 22.
  • Maintains professional development and continuing education.
  • 23.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
  • 24.
  • Considers the age of the patient served, applies knowledge of growth and development and age specific techniques through life span in planning and implementing care.

Working conditions, hazards and physical effort

Works in a radiation exposure area. Exposure to infectious materials, cuts, and abrasions from equipment. A flexible work schedule is required. Constant physical activity. Strenuous activity involved with moving equipment and patients. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently.

Contacts with others

Patients, visitors, physicians, and all other departments within the facility.

Equipment used/Special skills required

Ability to operate radiation exposure equipment and computers.

Qualifications

One (1) year experience is preferred.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of an approved Radiological Technology school, ARRT registered, and hold a current KY Radiation Operators General Certificate. One to two years of experience is preferred, though qualified new graduates are acceptable.
