Responsible for obtaining blood, urine, and culture specimens from patients of all ages according to established laboratory and regulatory procedures. Performs clerical functions and routine specimen testing under the supervision of a licensed technologist.

Assessment

Performs related body and system assessment each shift/visit.

Care of

Patient: Includes data analysis, planning, implementing, evaluating and educating.

Clinical/Technical

Skills: Utilizes technology, procedures, protocols, standards and interventions specific to assigned tasks

Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Competent with the computerized documentation system.

Leadership

  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for own decisions and behaviors. Recognizes, accepts and cooperates with direction from facility leadership.
  • Precepting/Mentoring: Participates in orientation of new staff and education of current staff as applicable. Mentors staff in a constructive and positive manner. Serves as resource to staff from nursing and ancillary/support departments. Job Requirements Required 1-3 years of IV Therapy experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility Active Registered Nurse license in the State of California Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS) from the American Heart Association Preferred Bachelors of Science in Nursing PICC certification within past 2 years using modified Seldinger technique and ultrasound guidance Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association

Requirements

Must possess a valid and current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate and maintain continuing education. High school or college courses in chemistry, biology, or mathematics are highly desired.
