Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC), TX. The Phlebotomist will perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures while ensuring patient safety, specimen integrity, and compliance with Defense Health Agency (DHA) standards.
This position supports physicians, nurses, laboratory professionals, and other healthcare providers by accurately collecting, labeling, documenting, transporting, and processing laboratory specimens. The Phlebotomist will also assist with specimen shipping, patient registration, laboratory documentation, Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), equipment maintenance, infection control, and quality assurance activities.
Certificate in Phlebotomy.
Graduate from an academic phlebotomy program including both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training (or equivalent state-approved program).
ASCP, or AMT, or State-required certification/registration Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Experience Must possess:
Minimum one year of recent phlebotomy experience within the last two years. Classroom and clinical experience including: 50 successful venipunctures 10 skin punctures Approximately 1,040 hours of work experience within the previous two years.
Current certification or registration as required by state law or national certifying organization.
Skills and Abilities Proficient in venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
Knowledge of specimen handling, laboratory safety, and infection control practices.
Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
Excellent communication and patient care skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Basic computer and electronic health record (EHR) proficiency.
Schedule Full-time 40 hours per week Hospital operates 24/7 Rotating 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts Days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and training holidays may be required.
Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, perform repetitive hand movements, lift up to 25 pounds, and safely perform blood collection procedures in a clinical environment.
Work Environment Work is performed in a fast-paced military medical center, including laboratory, inpatient, and outpatient clinical settings. The position requires direct patient interaction, frequent standing and walking, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff while following strict safety and infection control procedures.
Immunization Requirements Must meet all DHA/CRDAMC occupational health requirements, including current immunizations (e.g., Tdap, MMR, TB screening, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and annual Influenza vaccine) and annual health screenings.
Security Requirements Must be eligible to obtain and maintain required background clearance, government system access (CAC), and complete all mandatory DHA/Army security and HIPAA training prior to and during employment.
