Occupational Therapy Assistant

The Occupational Therapy Assistant is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include: Responsible for providing designated Occupational Therapy services to assigned individuals at Hope Network Neuro Rehabilitation. Services may include: preliminary screening of individual needs for OT intervention, ADL, IADL (including home management, budgeting/money management, use of public/alternative transportation, medication and health management, and establishment of daily/weekly routines) and clinical assessment and treatment. Also includes maintaining accurate data, treatment records accounting for treatment activities, and participation of departmental maintenance and program development. Responsible to adhere to established standards determined by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. in all areas of individual intervention and hold valid Michigan licensure.

• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.

• Supervise rehab aides and direct care staff in carrying out individualized treatment plans under the delegation and supervision of an OTR.
• 3.
• Generate appropriate treatment techniques, activities, and/or programs including but not limited to: B/IADL training, home accessibility, fabricating and monitoring adaptive equipment, UE orthotic devices, visual treatment, pre-driving training, functional mobility training, community integration, and family education from established functional goals.
• Possibly provide vocational adaptations in a variety of settings.

• Assist individuals and OTR in managing treatment goals for assigned individuals through review of individual records, observation, participation in ADLs, and interview of individuals, family and significant others and designated staff.

• With OTR, develop and implement treatment techniques to improve individual functioning in accordance with established treatment goals.
• Define and apply strategies of task analysis, compensation, environmental modifications, and work simplification in a variety of settings with individuals.
• 6.
• Monitor individuals’ progress and maintain accurate records of treatment through data collection and treatment reports as assigned.
• Completes timely documentation of daily treatment notes, and provide data and observations as needed to assist OTR in generating progress reports and discharge summaries.

• Develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all individuals.
• Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team for assigned individuals and verbally presents as needed.
• 8.
• May serve as a group leader for groups as assigned.

• Supervise, train, and evaluate OTA student fieldworks, Level I or Level II, after 1 year of employment 10.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new staff, student interns and volunteers as assigned by the supervisor.

Educational / Talent Requirements

• 1.
• NBCOT certification as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA).
• Minimum Associates Degree with certification 2.
• State of Michigan current licensure as a COTA.
• 3.
• Valid NPI number.
• 4.
• Ability to acquire CEUs and track documentation in order to support certification and licensure requirements.
• 5.
• Valid driver’s license with driving record acceptable according to Hope Network policy.

Work Experience Requirements

1. Minimum 1 year of work experience with Neurological disorders, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, and/or Orthopedic injury. 2. Work Experience in use of an EMR for documentation.
