About the role

The Operating Room Assistant provides patient care tasks under the direction of a Registered Nurse, including surgical positioning and monitoring. They are also responsible for maintaining sterile supplies, managing inventory, and assisting with room turnover.

  • Purpose: In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Operating Room Assistant, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, will provide patient care tasks, in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Functions within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Organization.
  • What you will do: Assists with placing patient in the designated surgical position (e.g. supine, prone, lateral, lithotomy). Monitor positioning and traction devices as appropriate. Verifies integrity of sterile packaging and sterilization indicators. Open sterile supplies and instruments using aseptic technique. Assists with room turnover. Adheres to aseptic technique principles. Maintains OR supply inventory and linen. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalency required.

Experience

  • Previous healthcare experience preferred Effective Communication Skills Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication. Math computation skills. BLS healthcare provider training required.

Requirements
