Medical Assistant Trainee Pathways - SouthPark Pointe Family Medicine

Responsibilities

Attend and participate in classroom (online or in person) and on the job hours (shadowing or clinicals). Maintain good standing in all course work. Sign a Pathways Employee Agreement committing to work for UnityPoint Health as a Medical Assistant. Maintain all eligibility requirements to participate for the duration of the program. Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures. May be required to draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Administer ordered vaccines. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-9 coding. Responsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status. Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps, as appropriate to scope and licensure.

Qualifications

Education: HS Diploma or equivalent Experience: Must be 18 years of age (or 17 with requirements) 6 months of experience in a direct patient facing role OR prior experience as an Experience Specialist or similar role in the healthcare setting, OR successful completion of a healthcare certification (Phlebotomy, EMT, or CNA) *Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, skills, internal equity, and other business needs.
