About the role

The Registered Nurse will provide fetal surveillance and maternal assessment while maintaining accurate patient records and discharge plans. They will also serve as a charge nurse and resource person for staff, ensuring high-quality patient care and service excellence.

1.

Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.

2.

Provides fetal surveillance and maternal assessment for antepartum patients requiring fetal monitoring 3.

Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans.

Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.

4.

Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.

5.

Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).

6.

Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.

7.

Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year and attends mandatory educational programs.

8.

Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.

Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.

9.

Assesses personal learning development needs.

Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities.

Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.

10.

Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.

11.

Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.

12.

Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.

Education/Experience/Training

· Ability to read, write and communicate in English · Graduate of a School of Nursing · (RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts · (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification · CCHC Pharmacology Exam (pass prior to start date) · (NRP) – Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (obtain within 6mo of hire) · (ACLS) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (obtain within 6 months, offered within) · (De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 90 days, offered within) · (FHM) - Fetal Monitor Course every 2 years · Recent OB experience within 2 years · Copy of the highest-level clinical diploma/degree and/or transcript required for those employees performing moderate complexity testing · Completion of Baby-Friendly competencies within 1 year of position · Completion of scrub training for cesarean sections within 1 year of position · (Preferred) – bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)

Requirements

Candidates must be a graduate of a School of Nursing with a current Massachusetts RN license and BLS certification. Additional requirements include recent OB experience, completion of pharmacology exams, and the ability to obtain NRP, ACLS, and de-escalation certifications.
