About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct nursing care to children with complex health and behavioral needs, including medication administration and clinical documentation. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans and ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Pay Rate

$30.00 per hour

  • Catholic Charities of Baltimore, St. Vincent Villa is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • PRN that will provide nursing care to children at Villa Maria School or St. Vincent’s Villa Residence including routine medical care, management of clinical records, medication administration, and oversight of immunization guidelines. The work schedule will be PRN as needed.

St. Vincent's Villa provides comprehensive residential treatment for children, ages 5-13, whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to community-based interventions and service.

Job duties & responsibilities

  • Provides direct nursing care to children with complex health and behavioral needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, ensuring care is delivered safely, consistently, and in alignment with established clinical protocols.
  • Applies the nursing process to assess student health needs, prioritize care, identify problems, and implement appropriate treatments and behavioral support plans to promote positive health and behavioral outcomes.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams to coordinate care plans, support consistent clinical practices, and contribute to improved student health and behavioral stability.
  • Builds and maintains therapeutic, trusting relationships with students to support engagement in care and promote their overall health, safety, and well-being.
  • Communicates regularly with students’ families/guardians to share health updates, reinforce care plans, and support continuity of care that contributes to improved student outcomes.
  • Administers medications as prescribed, adhering to physician orders and medication administration protocols to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance.
  • Accurately obtains and records vital signs and other health indicators to support ongoing monitoring and timely identification of changes in student health status.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation of all health services in compliance with COMAR and MSDE standards to ensure regulatory adherence and continuity of care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & certification requirements

  • High school diploma (GED)
  • Two (2) years of working with children in a pediatric setting.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices include first aid, medication administration protocols, CPR, and infection control protocols.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, medications and normal growth and development among children ages 3-15 and adults.
  • Knowledge of MD State and CDC guidelines/mandates for immunization. Familiarity with health care resources

Certification/Licensure

Current, active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing in the State of Maryland.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and CARE within six (6) months of hire and maintained thereafter.

Adult and Pediatric CPR within one month of hire and maintained thereafter.

  • Applies strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and effective exchanges.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills with a courteous and professional demeanor towards staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Requires proficiency in using computer systems and software to perform job function, including but not limited to, basic Windows PC, web browsing (i.e., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook. Knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive is preferred.

Physical requirements & work environment

  • No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position.
  • Flexibility may be required to work in times of urgent need and /or crisis.
  • May be exposed to resistant or aggressive client behavior requiring ability to implement crisis intervention and therapeutic holds.
  • Involves high risk of exposure to communicable and infectious disease requiring stringent adherence to infection control procedures.
  • Ability to move about to accomplish tasks and transition between work sites, which may include walking, standing, running, or traveling as needed. Able to lift, move, push, pull, or otherwise maneuver equipment or items, such as a medical cart, for up to an 8-hour shift.
  • Adjusting, lifting, or moving children, adolescents, and staff (using body mechanics) up to 50 pounds in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Ability to support safe and orderly evacuation of the building and maintain client safety.
  • Hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction, sufficient to effectively observe and communicate with others.
  • Ability to manage and tolerate periods of job-related stress associated with the role.
