Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring) Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate Note: All competencies must be achieved. High school diploma or equivalent One of the following

  • One year of patient care experience Enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare program with at least one completed clinical rotation Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician training Completion of basic information systems training Strong verbal and written communication skills Medication access limited to distribution to licensed nursing staff
  • Licensure/Certification/Clearances: Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA-compliant with skills demonstration) required within 30 days of hire Act 34 Criminal Clearance UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
