Position Title

Direct Support Professional (DSP) Employment Type: Full-Time and Part-Time Available Pay: Based on experience and qualifications

Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate, person-centered support to individuals receiving homemaker personal care and community-based services. The DSP assists individuals in maintaining their independence while promoting dignity, choice, safety, and inclusion within their homes and communities. Services are provided in accordance with each individual's Individual Service Plan (ISP), Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM), Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD), and agency policies.

Essential Job Duties

Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and hygiene.

Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding as needed.

Complete light housekeeping, laundry, and other household tasks.

Assist with medication reminders (medication administration only if properly certified and authorized).

Accompany individuals to medical appointments, community activities, shopping, and recreational outings.

Provide companionship while encouraging independence and community integration.

Assist with mobility, transfers, and ambulation using proper lifting techniques.

Follow all Individual Service Plans (ISP), Behavior Support Plans, and Nursing Care Plans.

Monitor for changes in an individual's physical or emotional condition and report concerns immediately.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Complete accurate documentation for every shift before the end of the workday.

Communicate professionally with supervisors, families, support coordinators, nurses, and other members of the individual's team.

Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for each individual served.

Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and annual in-service education.

Follow all agency policies, emergency procedures, and incident reporting requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous caregiving, home health, or direct support experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass all required background checks.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to become certified in First Aid/CPR.
  • Ability to complete all required DODD training requirements.
  • Ability to lift, push, or transfer up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Dependable, compassionate, patient, and professional.
  • Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
