At Allied Veterinary Specialists (AVS), we believe exceptional specialty care starts with exceptional veterinary nurses.

We’re looking for an experienced Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our growing South Daytona team. This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys building relationships with clients and patients, assisting with specialty consultations and recheck appointments, providing hands-on nursing care, and supporting our surgical team with light sedation and anesthesia monitoring when needed.

You’ll work closely with our surgeons, clients, and nursing team to create a smooth, compassionate experience from the patient’s first consultation through recovery and follow-up care.

✨ What You’ll Do

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you’ll play an important role in keeping our Surgery service organized, efficient, and patient-focused.

Your day may include

Assisting with new surgical consultations and recheck appointments Obtaining thorough patient histories and reviewing current medications Performing technician assessments and obtaining vital signs Preparing patients and exam rooms for specialty appointments Reviewing treatment plans and helping clients understand next steps Assisting surgeons during examinations and minor procedures Performing blood draws and IV catheter placement Collecting and preparing diagnostic samples Coordinating diagnostic testing and patient care Providing compassionate nursing care to surgical patients Monitoring patients receiving mild to moderate sedation Assisting with light anesthesia monitoring for procedures as needed Supporting patient recovery following sedation or minor procedures Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation Providing clear patient hand-offs to other technicians and departments Communicating with clients regarding medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care Helping maintain an organized and efficient Surgery schedule 🩺 Skills You’ll Use & Continue Developing

This role provides an opportunity to strengthen your skills in

Specialty surgical consultations and patient intake Client education and communication Patient assessment and nursing care IV catheter placement and blood collection Medication administration Sedation monitoring Basic to intermediate anesthesia monitoring Patient recovery Pain assessment and post-operative care Surgical and diagnostic workflows Medical documentation Collaboration with specialty and emergency teams While anesthesia experience is valuable, this position is not primarily focused on advanced anesthesia or full-day OR monitoring. The role is centered around supporting our surgeons with consultations, rechecks, patient care, diagnostics, procedures, and overall Surgery department workflow.

We’re looking for someone who brings both strong technical skills and a team-first mindset.

Ideally, you have

3+ years of veterinary technician experience preferred Strong veterinary nursing and animal-handling skills Experience obtaining patient histories and assisting with appointments Confidence communicating with pet owners Comfortable monitoring patients under sedation and light anesthesia Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple patients and appointments efficiently Excellent communication and teamwork skills A compassionate, professional approach to patient and client care A desire to continue learning and growing within specialty veterinary medicine Extra points if you have:

CVT, LVT, or RVT credentials Specialty hospital experience Advanced anesthesia monitoring experience Experience with ezyVet and/or VetRadar

🕒 Current Schedule

Monday–Thursday with Periodic Friday shifts

A four-day workweek means more consistency in your schedule — and more days away from the hospital to recharge.
