General Duty Sterile Processing Technician
The technician is responsible for the inventory, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. They must ensure all items are tracked and distributed throughout the hospital and clinics in a timely manner.
Works under the supervision of the Manager–OR and/or Director – OR\SPD. This position is responsible for ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments and equipment are properly inventoried, assembled, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed and tracked in a quality/timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Works independently with little supervision. Performs appropriate quality control testing and record keeping as recommended.
Operates and troubleshoots cleaning equipment while maintaining safety standards. Properly handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments. Selects appropriate sterilization methods. Knows and follows correct principles of sterilization. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological test to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process. Retrieves, disburses and tracks medical and surgical supplies and equipment to the customer in a quality/timely manner. Cleans various Biomedical equipment for patient use. Anticipates required instrument needs for cases due to surgeon and procedure preference cards. Maintains work flow by putting away sterile items, retrieving items from return cart and wrapping items for sterilization. Monitors the cart wash and instrument wash to keep work flow moving. Answers phone and door and pull case carts as needed. Other duties as assigned
Education H.S. Diploma - Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision and has great attention to detail oriented work. - Required
Work Experience Responsible for maintaining continuing education requirements as needed per department requirements - Required
Travel Requirements Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required
