Job Description

General Purpose of Job: Evaluates and treats speech and language pathologies; cognitive/ communication difficulties related to speech and language; and swallowing difficulties in acute care and outpatient settings for adults and outpatient setting for pediatrics. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Evaluate and assess patients based upon the referral / establish reasonable goals with patient and/or caregivers. Provide patient and/or caregiver education about the results of the evaluation, method of treatment and the results of treatment. Instruct patients and/or family members in home programs. Perform treatment according to the established plan within the scope of Speech Language Pathology. Performs medical record documentation according to established criteria. Re-evaluate patients, assess their progress, and make recommendations as to their discharge planning. Communicate with other health care professionals verbally and in writing. Delegate to Rehab Aides, and students/interns as appropriate Supervision including directing, reviewing work performed, training, and cosigning notes for interventions provided by Rehab Aides, Volunteers, and students/interns ensuring that department policies and procedures are upheld and that quality patient care is provided. Cooperate with support staff and other health system departments to maximize the efficiency of non-clinical services such as the registering, scheduling, and billing of our patients. Participate in In-services, staff meetings, team meetings, continuing education courses, and other meetings as needed. Follow Sparrow Hospital and Department specific policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines to ensure patient safety including, but not limited to: Infection Prevention, Privacy, and environmental safety. Supports and serves as a role model reflecting the Mission, Vision, and Values of the Hospital system Provide Cross-Coverage to other Community Hospitals as needed. Willingness to be trained in specialty areas as indicated by needs of the clinic to meet patient needs Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements General Requirements

Current Michigan Speech Language Pathology License.

Membership in American Speech language Hearing Association, ASHA.

CPR/BLS certification.

Completion of SLP Clinical Fellowship, preferred.

Certificate for Clinical Competence through American Speech language Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred. Work Experience

At least one year of clinical experience treating Adult and Pediatric patients, preferred.

Experience with voice disorders, preferred.

Previous Experience with adult patients in videofluroscopic swallow studies, preferred. Education

Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program in Speech/ Language Pathology. Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians, nurses and other healthcare associates.
