About the role

The Counselor Aide provides direct support to clients in a residential treatment setting, including facilitating group therapy and assisting with daily living activities. They are also responsible for maintaining clinical records, ensuring facility safety, and transporting clients to off-site engagements.

Harbor is seeking a Counselor Aide to join the Toledo team! This position is responsible for providing direct client support in support of safe, structured, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented residential substance use disorder treatment.

Due to the sensitive nature of the position and the need to protect the privacy and safety of female residents, this position is open to female applicants only. This is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) under Title VII.

Position is part-time second shift, working 2

45p - 11:15p with rotating weekends.

Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Two years of experience working with persons diagnosed with substance use disorder and/or mental health concerns.
  • At least one year of Group Facilitation experience.

Licensure and Certifications

Chemical Dependency (CDCA)/Counseling (LPC)/Social Work (LSW) Licensure must be obtained within 120 days of hire.

Must maintain active licensure in good standing.

CPR/First Aid and NCI/CPI Certifications required within 90 days of employment.

Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and show proof of personal auto insurance policy to be deemed insurable with Harbor’s vehicle insurance carrier. Must remain up to date on annual Defensive Driving for 15-Passenger Vans training requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related behavioral/mental health field from an accredited college or university.

Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Maintains familiarity with the individualized care plan for clients and provides support to clients according to the care plan.
  • Contributes to the care planning process by providing the clinical team with specific information and observations of the clients’ needs and preferences.
  • 2.
  • Assists clients in adjusting to treatment, offering emotional support, and helping with daily living activities.
  • 3.
  • Facilitates group therapy activities, providing basic counseling and guidance, and educating clients on recovery principles and coping strategies.
  • 4.
  • Provides crisis response care to clients during moments of crisis or ambivalence.
  • 5.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate clinical records in a timely manner.
  • 6.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures.
  • 7.
  • Transports clients to social activities or off-site engagements as scheduled and per Harbor’s driving policies.
  • 8.
  • Responsible for the completion of all scheduled tasks, including care of clients and the facility (including maintenance tickets and cleaning).
  • 9.
  • Participates in weekly supervision, training, and development programs to enhance knowledge, skills, and personal service network.
  • 10.
  • Completes admissions and discharges for all entering and exiting clients.
  • 11.
  • Completes household duties and work orders as outlined on the duty list for each shift.
  • 12.
  • Completes initial and annual Relias Trainings.
  • 13.
  • Understands and maintains professional boundaries in client interactions.
  • 14.
  • Maintains courtesy and professionalism with staff and clients
