About the role

The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care, including assisting with activities of daily living and monitoring patient conditions under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. They are responsible for documenting patient data, reporting changes in condition, and maintaining a safe, infection-controlled environment.

Position Summary

Responsible for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.

Assigned to work under the supervision of a RN/LPN/LVN who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and PCT/PCA skills and abilities.

Will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.

Utilizes basic infection control procedures, basic nutrition and fluid intake.

Recognizes emergency situations and responds.

Position qualifications minimum qualifications

High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Completion of an approved nursing assistant or PCT program or successful completion of the Hospital’s PCT training and orientation program

Current BLS certification from a CORALVITA-approved vendor required.

Additional qualifications/Skills

Current, valid, and active certification to practice as a Patient Care Technician/Associate in the state of employment preferred.

Ability to project a professional image.

Strong organizational, prioritizing and analytical skills.

Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions.

Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Phlebotomy training and ECG training preferred.

Freedom from illegal use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Certificates, licensures, registrations

Current, valid, and active certification to practice as a Patient Care Technician/Associate in the state of employment preferred. Current BLS certification from a CORALVITA-approved vendor required.

Language skills

English is the primary language of the facility. Ability to read and write, communicate clearly with co-workers and customers and to respond to appropriate questions regarding work process or work product.

Mathematical skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. Ability to define and solve problems and collect data.

Assists patient in activities of daily living by feeding, bathing, toileting and other personal hygiene regimes. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and expresses interest in patient progress. Answers questions from patients and their families and explains procedures and processes within the scope of their training and ability.

Assists the registered nurse by gathering data on patient conditions, direct patient observation, obtaining vital signs, recording oral intakes, monitoring input and output, weighing patients, recording/charting patient information and interacting with patient and family members. Reports changes in patient medical and/or emotional condition to the registered nurse. Documents interventions and patient responses according to policy. Assists nursing personnel in responding to various emergency patient situations.

Provides care as delegated under the direction of licensed nursing personnel. Organizes and adapts the plan of care with consideration for patient needs, desires and routines.

Demonstrates and reinforces priorities in this plan, encouraging self care and independence as appropriate. Communicates with patient and team accurately, appropriately and timely, including completing documentation according to established procedures and guidelines. Makes rounds on patients and reports any and all observations in patient's changing condition to the RN/LPN/LVN

Requirements
