What you'll do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will provide person-centered care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community settings. You will play a key role in helping individuals achieve greater independence, build life skills, enhance community involvement, and improve their overall quality of life.

  • Direct support & daily living assistance
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including:
  • Personal hygiene and grooming
  • Bathing and dressing
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Housekeeping and laundry
  • Household maintenance
  • Shopping and budgeting
  • Encourage independence, self-determination, and personal growth.
  • Promote dignity, respect, and meaningful choice.
  • Support participation in recreational, educational, vocational, and community activities.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and person-centered environment.
  • Provide supervision and support in accordance with individual support plans.

Health, safety & wellness

Assist in maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of individuals served.

Observe and report changes in physical, emotional, behavioral, or medical conditions.

Support healthcare and wellness plans.

Administer medications and complete required medication documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.

Respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations using approved intervention strategies.

Report incidents and concerns according to agency policy.

Provide trauma-informed care and support.

  • Individualized service & skill development
  • Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs), Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs), and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs).
  • Assist individuals in achieving personal goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Teach and reinforce:
  • Self-care skills
  • Household management skills

  • Independent living skills
  • Collaborate with supervisors and interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality care and support.
  • Community participation & transportation
  • Provide transportation and support for:
  • Medical appointments

  • Religious services
  • Family visits
  • Community events
  • Promote community integration and meaningful engagement.
  • Assist individuals in accessing community resources and opportunities.
  • Documentation & compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including:
  • Daily logs
  • Medication Administration Records (MARs)
  • Goal tracking
  • Incident reports
  • Behavioral documentation
  • Vehicle logs
  • Consumer funds documentation
  • Other required program records
  • Follow all agency, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities as required.
  • Complete required training, staff meetings, and professional development activities.

Qualifications

  • Required
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
  • Successful completion of required background checks, clearances, and drug screening.
  • Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Behavioral Health, or a related field.
  • Six months to one year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience working in residential, behavioral health, or community-based settings.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration certifications, or the ability to obtain certifications upon hire.

  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
