  • Puncture: Performs venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with department SOP.

  • Management: Adheres to SOP in the use of handheld devices for specimen collection for patient. Monitors collection list and document status of outstanding collections where specimens are not collected.

  • Administrative duties: Greets, guides and resolves basic patient queries. Picks up phone calls and directs patients. Monitors inventory levels and notifies the supervisor on the same. ​Education:

  • Requirement: 2 to 3 years of Phlebotomy experience in a clinic/hospital setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of standard phlebotomy techniques, appropriate blood processing and handling procedures. Record keeping skills. Understand and follow specific clinical protocols and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Licenses/Certifications: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS) sponsored by the American Heart Association: Certification Clinical Lab Technician (CLT) issued by Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME): Licensure Phlebotomist issued by Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME): Licensure The above job summary is intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by people assigned to this work. Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or two years of applicable experience, along with two to three years of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting. Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and licensure as a Phlebotomist or Clinical Lab Technician from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
