Role Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Administrative Assistant/Andrologist to join our IVF laboratory team in Dedham, Massachusetts. This position combines hands-on laboratory work with administrative support, including specimen processing, basic andrology procedures, laboratory documentation, inventory management, scheduling, and coordination of daily lab operations. The ideal candidate will have prior hands-on laboratory experience, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn reproductive laboratory techniques. This role will collaborate closely with the laboratory, clinical, and administrative teams to support accurate, efficient, and compassionate patient care.
Key Responsibilities Receive, identify, accession, process, and document semen specimens while maintaining strict chain-of-custody and patient-identification standards.
Perform semen analyses and related andrology testing in accordance with validated laboratory procedures.
Prepare sperm specimens for fertility treatment, including washing, processing, cryopreservation, thawing, and other assigned procedures.
Complete accurate and timely documentation in laboratory systems and the electronic medical record and communicate results only to authorized team members.
Perform and document equipment checks, quality-control activities, maintenance, cleaning, and temperature monitoring.
Coordinate laboratory schedules, specimen appointments, required orders and consents, records, correspondence, and other administrative workflows.
Manage laboratory supplies, inventory, purchase requests, shipping, receiving, courier coordination, and cryostorage-related documentation.
Support document control, proficiency testing, inspections, accreditation activities, incident review, and ongoing quality-improvement initiatives.
Collaborate closely with embryologists, physicians, nurses, patient navigators, and administrative staff to support safe and efficient patient care.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all laboratory, infection-control, safety, and HIPAA requirements.
Associate degree in biology, laboratory science, reproductive science, or a related field required. Previous hands-on laboratory experience required, including experience with basic laboratory techniques, specimen handling, pipetting, microscopy, or similar laboratory equipment. Previous andrology or reproductive laboratory experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided. Strong administrative, organizational, and computer skills with the ability to maintain accurate and confidential records. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to proper specimen identification, documentation, and patient safety. Professional communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive patient interactions with discretion and compassion. Ability to work independently and collaboratively while balancing laboratory and administrative responsibilities. Flexibility to work early mornings and occasional weekends or holidays based on laboratory needs.
