The technologist performs and evaluates ambulatory and overnight polysomnograms, including laboratory setup and patient hook-ups, operating sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep and wake physiology. Essential duties involve reviewing patient information, performing standard testing procedures, acquiring and analyzing data, and responding to patient care needs according to established protocols.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and graduation from a polysomnographic educational program approved by the Medical Board of California. Required experience includes two years as a Medical Assistant or equivalent, plus twelve to eighteen months specifically in Polysomnography, along with California Polysomnographic Technologist Registration and Basic Life Support certification.
The Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible for laboratory set-up, patient hook-ups and performing and evaluating ambulatory and overnight polysomnograms. Functions independently to safety operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep and wake physiology. Expected to work as a team member to perform any and all of the tasks required of each shift. Each technologist is critical to the functioning of the whole team. Task sequence, methods, and procedures are set according to international standards guidelines and standards, and Sleep Clinic policy and procedures. The Polysomnographic Technologist is expected to maintain a schedule which includes day, evening or night shifts.
Aptitude in utilizing standard laboratory equipment preferred. Some college preferred.
