The Medication Aide assists nursing staff by providing compassionate, resident-focused care, including supervised administration of medications according to physician orders and providing personal care as delegated by licensed nurses. Responsibilities also include collecting vital signs, documenting medication administration on the MAR, and performing necessary cleaning and food preparation duties.
Required education is a High School Diploma/GED equivalent, and candidates for Long Term/Senior Care must possess both a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification and a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification from the South Dakota Board of Nursing. A minimum of one year of related experience is also required for this position.
Essential Functions: Assists and supervises residents with administration of medications per Physician Orders and follows proper protocols for administering medication. Assists residents with personal cares in accordance with the resident plan of care and as delegated by the RN/LPN/RCM/DRS. Including, bathing, oral cares, feeding, toileting and repositioning/transferring as well as other duties as needed. Collects specimens, vital signs, assesses level of functioning, and reports/documents accordingly, as well as reporting to the nurse in charge in a timely fashion Records the administration of medications in the MAR. Performs a variety of cleaning duties to ensure a set standard of cleanliness in the facility, as evidenced by good appearance of area upon check ups, positive feedback from staff using the areas cleaned, and minimal negative feedback. Prepares and serves food according to daily needs with minimal waste. All other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.
