The Respiratory Therapist performs general and critical care procedures, including initiating, monitoring, and managing patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation according to physician orders and departmental policy. This role also involves obtaining and analyzing blood gasses, accurately documenting all procedures, and communicating recommendations to the healthcare team.
Candidates must have an Associate degree and be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program, although an equivalent diploma or experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Required certifications include a Temporary Respiratory Care Practitioner license, obtaining full Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification within six months, and maintaining unit-specific certifications like BLS, NRP, PALS, and ACLS.

Performs respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols. Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Initiates and manages all types of airways and associated equipment. Obtains blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results accurately. Accurately and completely documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate. Communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above. Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Education - Associate degree. Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school Experience - No experience required. In Lieu Of In lieu of education and experience noted above, a diploma and/or equivalent experience may be considered. Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses Respiratory Care Practitioner - Temporary license in state in which work is performed. Full Respiratory Therapist Certification including Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from NBRC must be obtained within six (6) months of hire BLS NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS etc. must obtain and maintain certifications as required by work unit.
Skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Ability to obtain blood gasses from all sites.
