The Surgical Assistant provides technical first and second assistance during surgical procedures under physician supervision, focusing on exposure, hemostasis, and closure to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role also encompasses performing necessary preoperative and postoperative duties to support the patient throughout the perioperative period.
Candidates must complete an accredited Surgical Assistant Program or equivalent to meet national certifying body requirements, and must obtain national certification from NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA upon hire. Required proficiencies include excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical skills, informatics technology skills, and working knowledge of equipment with troubleshooting ability.
Education Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant Program or an equivalent program that meets the educational requirements of the designated national certifying body. (Required) Work Experience Physician relations experience strongly (Preferred) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills. (Required proficiency) Detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills. (Required proficiency) Demonstrated skills related to Informatics Technology. (Required proficiency) Working knowledge of equipment with the ability to troubleshoot issues for resolution.
