The Registered Nurse plans, implements, coordinates, evaluates, and promotes the continuity of care by assessing patient health status, providing teaching, and offering psychosocial support. Responsibilities also include preparing and administering therapies, facilitating dose modifications based on assessments and labs, performing venipuncture, and managing clinical operations.
Candidates must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program with an active RN state license and current BLS certification; BSN is preferred. Experience requirements vary by level, ranging from 0-3 years for Level 1 (with at least one year in oncology preferred) up to five years for Level Sr.
Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material. Provides psychosocial support to patients and families. Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician. Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices. Facilitates clinical operations and patient care. Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart. Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart. Assist patients in locating available community resources.
