The Occupational Therapist I evaluates patients' functions and develops specific treatment plans based on assessments. They also educate patients and their families about conditions and treatment options while supervising assistants and aides.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and relevant certifications such as BLS and NBCOT. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to work independently.
Certifications and Licensures
Education: Bachelors Degree
Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts appropriate representative and/or supplier to place order and assists in securing equipment for patient. Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence to facilitate or restore optimal functioning specific to therapist’s patient care area. Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members. Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods. Promotes process improvement. Assists with program development, Participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate. Promotes occupational therapy within MyMichigan Health and service area, participating in and providing community education. Function as case manager for assigned cases. Demonstrates commitment to MyMichigan Health and specific affiliate mission as evidenced by customer service, quality of service, and teamwork. Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information in accordance with MyMichigan Health and affiliate policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Equivalent Experience and Other Comments (Education)
Successful completion of MyMichigan Health and affiliate specific orientation. Successful completion of new hire competency. Interpersonal skills needed for effective verbal and written communication in the English language to interact with people individually and in a group at all levels. Ability to work independently, demonstrating problem solving and organizational skills, time management skills and initiative. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is required and must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. Ability to work where employee may be exposed to communicable diseases. Ability to use personal protective equipment correctly. Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation. Ability to demonstrate and teach selected treatment routines to appropriate professional and non-professional individuals. AOTA membership preferred.
