The physician will perform procedures, manage outpatient clinics, handle hospital call duties, and cover specialized areas like Echo, Ekg, stress tests, and pacemaker clinics. Core privileges include performing history and physical examinations, admitting, evaluating, treating, and consulting on patients with acute and chronic coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.
Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree, complete a minimum 3-year Internal Medicine residency, a 3-year Cardiology fellowship, and an additional 12 months of Interventional Cardiology fellowship training. Applicants must also meet specific procedural documentation requirements, such as performing 250 interventional procedures as the primary operator within the last 24 months if not applying directly out of fellowship.
Interventional Cardiology Core Privileges includes the ability to perform history and physical examinations, admit, evaluate, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with acute and chronic coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes, and valvular heart disease. Qualifications M.D. or D.O. degree. Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways: An applicant who has just completed a fellowship shall provide his/her fellowship log with a minimum of 250 therapeutic interventional cardiac procedures documented and a letter of reference must come from the fellowship director. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. For Interventional catheterization skills, applicants should provide documentation of 250 interventional procedures as the primary operator within the past 24 months and a letter of reference regarding competency from the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the institution where the applicant most recently practiced. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months is required. For Interventional catheterization skills, applicants should provide documentation of 250 interventional procedures as the primary operator within the past 24 months and a letter of reference regarding competency from the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the institution where the applicant most recently practiced.
