The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment for surgical and clinical departments. They also maintain sterilization records and perform environmental cleaning within the surgical services department.
Candidates should ideally have a degree in Sterile Processing and a BLS certification, with CRCST or CSPDT certification required within one year of hire. One year of experience in instrument processing and knowledge of aseptic principles are preferred.
RAMC is looking for a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team!
The Sterile Processing Technician performs cleaning, decontamination, processing, sterilization, packaging, distributing, storing, and delivery of sterile goods, instruments, trays, and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician will support all patient care services and be responsible for knowing all of the tools used in an operating room, clinic, and hospital departments, as well as, sterilizing and packaging instruments used during surgery. The Sterile Processing Technician will also decontaminate, clean, process, assemble, store, and distribute medical devices and supplies, and keep records associated with sterilization monitors. The Sterile Processing Tech will perform appropriate documentation for the sterile processing processes. The Sterile Processing Tech will also be responsible for performing functions related to environmental cleaning of the surgical services department. Flexibility in schedule is required.
Graduation from an accredited for Sterile Processing is preferred.
CRCST or CSPDT within one year of hire. Meets health requirements. BLS certification.
One year of experience in instrument processing preferred. Knowledge of aseptic principles preferred.
Occasionally sits while performing tasks of the role (scheduling, developing & reviewing protocols/procedures, wrapping instruments, ordering supplies). Occasionally carry objects weighing less than 25 pounds. Frequently walk and stand. Occasionally bend to the floor, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead to retrieve equipment and/or supplies. Frequently handle objects, smell, feel, control knobs, switches, and levers. Frequently stand in the same position for an extended period of time. Frequently twist i.e. while scrubbed in holding retractors and other instruments. Frequent walking is required. Frequently reach above the waist. Frequently lift up to 25 pounds, above head, i.e. instrument pans. Occasionally push up to 100 pounds. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds while assisting nursing staff with transferring and positioning patients and maneuvering equipment while using transfer assistance devices. Frequently bend to the floor, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead when cleaning surgery suites. Occasionally handle objects, smell, feel, control knobs, switches, and levers. Frequently carry objects weighing 10 pounds or less.
