The technician will be responsible for running reports, restocking automated dispensing machines, troubleshooting dispensing issues, and training nurses on related problems. Key duties also involve compounding IV and piggyback medications using aseptic technique while adhering to USP 797 guidelines.
Candidates must possess a Pharmacy Technician Licensure equivalent through the state of Michigan, with temporary license holders needing to obtain a full license within 365 days. Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, successful completion of an annual Aseptic Technique exam, good math and organizational skills, and the ability to work under high pressure.
The Pharmacy Technician is an entry-level position. Following a training period, the Technician should be able to competently use hospital EMR for daily duties, use automated dispensing machines, compound IVs, charge and credit, fill orders, answer phones and doors, and stock the department.

Pharm tech: Pharmacy Technician Licensure
New hire and transfers before October 1, 2015 must possess a full technician license or limited pharmacy license through the state of Michigan. Effective October 1, 2015, all incumbents, new hires and transfers to this position must possess a pharmacy technician temporary, limited or full license through the state of Michigan Individuals with a temporary license must obtain a full license through the state of Michigan within 365 days of obtaining the temporary license. A Pharmacist Intern License with the State of MI is also acceptable.
