Medical Assistants perform administrative tasks like scheduling and record keeping, alongside clinical duties such as taking vital signs, preparing patients, drawing blood, and administering medications under physician direction. Licensed Practical Nurses provide nursing care within their scope of practice, carrying out physician orders, administering medication, and coordinating communication between patients, staff, and physicians.
Medical Assistants require 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience or current credentials, plus Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days; graduation from an MA program is preferred. LPNs must have graduated from an LPN program and hold a current LPN license, also requiring BLS certification within 90 days, with one year of clinic experience preferred.

MA: The Medical Assistant will perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN.) performs duties within the scope of practice as defined by the Missouri Nurse Practice Act requiring all nursing care shall be given under the direction of a person licensed by a state regulatory board to prescribe medications and treatments or under the direction of a registered professional nurse, physician, or nurse practitioner. The LPN performs duties for the promotion of health and in the care of persons who are ill, injured, or experiencing alterations in normal health processes.
