The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing and coordinating venipuncture and phlebotomy procedures, while also providing necessary clerical support to the department. This role includes cleaning, preparing, and storing lab equipment according to safety regulations and performing various point-of-care testing procedures.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with additional training such as completion of a Medical Assistant program or Phlebotomy training being preferred. One year of laboratory experience is preferred, which may substitute for post-secondary education, and relevant healthcare certification is a plus.
The Laboratory Assistant performs and coordinates venipuncture and related phlebotomy procedures, provides clerical support to the department, and performs billing and coding functions. Cleans, prepares, cleans, and stores glassware and other lab equipment to follow health and safety regulations. Has knowledge of point of care testing procedures, this includes but not limited to blood glucose, pregnancy tests, rapid strep, and hemoglobin.
High School Diploma or equivalent; additional training/education preferred, such as completion of Medical Assistant program, Phlebotomy training, coursework in medical terminology. Phlebotomist or other healthcare certification preferred. 1 year experience in a laboratory environment preferred; experience may substitute for post-secondary education.
Shift Schedule: Full-Time; Monday-Friday, day hours
