What does a DSP do?
As a Direct Support Professional, you will care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As outlined in the individual's service plan and implementation strategies, your responsibilities will include supervision, personal care training, active treatment, and, when necessary, medication administration. You will also ensure the safety and well-being of designated individuals at all times, ensure self-advocacy training for individuals, ensure informed choices are being offered, maintain documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards (e.g., individual data sheets, incident reports, etc.), provide input on individual progress and needs for programmatic purposes, and more.
