The BA Counselor provides support and guidance to individuals dealing with mental health and substance use challenges. They develop personalized treatment plans and collaborate with community resources to promote client recovery and well-being.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or related field. They are required to have at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in mental health services or meet specific alternative criteria regarding language fluency and training.
BA with at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to person with mental illness Or
BA and fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of the practitioner's clients belong, completes 40 hours of training in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness, and receives clinical supervision from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirement of 2,000 hours of supervised experience is met;
Has at least 6,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness OR
Is a graduate student in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and is formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical training OR
Holds a master's or other graduate degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college or university and has less than 4,000 hours post-master's experience in the treatment of mental illness.
TCM Exemption for services provided to non-English speaking clients Received at least “meets expectations” on annual appraisals, no outstanding performance improvement issues, competency in all listed accountabilities, and needed work ethic, attitude and conflict resolution skills
