The Mental Health Technician provides continuous patient care, supervision, and interaction as part of a treatment team under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, documenting patient behavior, assisting with daily living activities, and performing crisis interventions.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for Certified Nursing Assistant certification or a degree in a therapeutic discipline. One year of related experience in psychiatric patient care is preferred, along with valid CPR/First Aid certification.
Take and record vital signs properly. Utilize sound judgment during assessment and observe and document any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or ability to work toward treatment plan goals. Communicate changes in the patient's condition to the charge nurse. Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team for each patient. Document the treatment plan, nursing interventions, and the patient's response to the intervention. Employ appropriate crisis intervention techniques as needed Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living. Act as the patient's advocate and ensure that the patient's rights are upheld.
One year of related experience, with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness, preferred.
