The Mental Health Technician provides continuous patient care, supervision, and role modeling for patients across various age groups. Key duties include recording vital signs, documenting treatment responses, and employing crisis intervention techniques under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Candidates should ideally have a high school diploma, CNA certification, or a degree in social work or a related therapeutic discipline. A valid driver's license is required, and CPR/First Aid and CPI certifications must be completed within 90 days of hire.
Take and record vital signs properly. Utilize sound judgment during assessment and observe and document any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or ability to work toward treatment plan goals. Communicate changes in the patient's condition to the charge nurse. Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team for each patient. Document the treatment plan, nursing interventions, and the patient's response to the intervention. Employ appropriate crisis intervention techniques as needed Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living. Act as the patient's advocate and ensure that the patient's rights are upheld.
One year of related experience, with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness, preferred.
