The surgical technologist prepares and maintains the operating room, including setting up sterile instruments and equipment for surgical procedures. They assist surgeons by passing instruments, holding retractors, and ensuring the sterile field is maintained throughout the operation.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and be a graduate of an approved surgical technician program. A minimum of 1-2 years of operating room experience and CST certification are preferred.

Under the supervision of the Operating Room Manager/Director of Nursing, according to the organizational structure, and at the direction of Registered Nurses, performs surgical scrubbing. Assures proper care and maintenance of all surgical instrumentation and equipment while maintaining the sterile field. Demonstrates good knowledge of principles and practices of aseptic technique and infection control. Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment, instruments, procedures and supplies utilized in the operating room.
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal operating room environment. Surgical technologists work in clean, well-lighted, cool environments. Must stand for long periods and remain alert during operations. At times may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
