The role involves performing a wide range of diagnostic tests across various laboratory sections, including blood bank, hematology, and chemistry, while ensuring courteous interaction with all hospital personnel and patients. Assumes responsibility for assigned areas of laboratory activity.
Maintains proficiency and performs diagnostic test in blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical, microscopy and bacteriology.
Carries out and initiates follow up of organic and inorganic diagnostic test.
Draws venous or capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients as required.
Packages specimens together with pertinent information.
Arranges for delivery to reference laboratory.
Prioritizes requests according to need and condition.
Records and checks results of tests.
Ensures prompt transmittal of accurate reports and test results to physicians and nursing units.
Ensures proper reporting of charges and billing information for all services.
Completes periodic proficiency survey tests for unknown samples submitted for analysis and completes required reports.
Prepares and sets up equipment for tests.
Assures proper calibration of equipment.
Performs and records daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks of all laboratory equipment.
Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of clinical laboratory procedures, techniques and equipment.
Must wear facility provided identification badge at all times.
