The intern provides non-invasive respiratory care to patients in non-critical areas and observes care in critical units under preceptor supervision. They also participate in patient hand-off processes and assist with clinical assessments.
Applicants must be respiratory therapy students who have completed their first semester and maintain satisfactory grades. A letter of good standing from their college is required to be on file.
Respiratory students may apply for an intern position after completing their first semester of the respiratory therapy program College Letter of Good Standing in personnel file. The student must have satisfactory grades and be in good standing in their program must be the student must have satisfactory grades and be in good standing in their program at ORMC. The intern must work a minimum of 10 hours per month. The intern level will be determined by their progress within their respiratory program to include competencies successfully completed in Simulation Labs, performance in their intern role, and approval by the unit director.
RESPIRATORY INTERNS/EXTERNS MAY (after checkoff by school program and verification by preceptor):
· Take an independent assignment on the floor
· Provide non-invasive care to patients in non-critical areas including but not limited to oxygen administration, pulse oximetry, auscultation/assessment, nebulized medication administration, etc.
· *Observe care in a critical area including review/interpretation of labs and arterial blood gases (ABG’s) correlation to patient care
· *Participate in hand-off process between providers and shift
